RULES AND PROCEDURES:

Philosophy: This class will follow the main principles of the “Decatur Way.” Students will be expected to have pride in themselves, the work they produce, and in their school; respect for themselves, their school, and authority; responsibility to complete assignments to the best of their ability and to come to class on time; and achievement for all students, academically and socially.

Keys For Success:

1.    “10 Minute Rule” – No one will be allowed to leave the class 10 minutes before or at the end of class.

2.    Students will be in class on time. Definition of lateness: students must be in their seat when the late bell rings.

Consequences: 1st & 2nd lates = warning

                          3rd late = after school detention / parent/guardian call

4th late = office referral / Saturday school

* Tardies are counted for the entire semester

3.    Make up work – It is the student’s responsibility to make up work and/or tests when he/she is absent. Please see me as soon as possible. A grade of zero will be recorded if the work is not made up 5 days upon returning to school. Please call to get work sent home if you will be out for an extended period of time.

4.    Items not allowed in this room or school: Food, sodas, CD players electronic games, gum, cell phones must be turned off at all times in school and put away. These items may be confiscated and turned into the office.

5.    You are not dismissed until the bell rings. Because this is a very crowded room, students must stay in their seats at all times. Please ask for permission to move around if it is necessary.

6.    In order to be successful, you need to be in class. Please review the school attendance policy. Students with more than 5 unexcused absences will fail this course.

7.    You are in high school. Appropriate behavior is expected. Respect towards everyone in the room is expected. Classroom disruptions and disrespect towards the teacher or other students will be dealt with immediately. This behavior may result in your removal from this class.

8.    Students are expected to come to class with all appropriate material including their agenda. Students are expected to record all homework and other important due dates in their agendas. Agendas are required to be able to leave the room at any time.

9.    Civics and service learning are graduation requirements. YOU MUST PASS THIS COURSE TO GRADUATE!
